MEN.TALK.WALK
What the group is
Men.Talk.Walk is a men’s mental-health/well-being walking group based around Abertridwr & the Caerphilly area.
They meet weekly on Sunday mornings (commonly at 9:30 am) and there is no formal sign-up required to join.
The walks are outdoors, in nature, on cycle/foot paths, which gives a relaxed environment for talking and walking. Walk Wheel Cycle Trust
Their mission is to help end the stigma around men talking about mental health, by combining walking + talking.
📍 Meeting details & location
Meeting point: “Aberfawr Rd, Abertridwr, Caerphilly CF83 4EJ” for some walks.
Regular start time: every Sunday at 9:30 am. On the last Sunday of the month they may meet at 9:00 am.
The walks range in length: about 1 hour to up to 3 hours depending on route.
👍 Why this could be a good fit for you
Being outdoors and walking means you are likely to be in a lower-volume, less formal setting compared to typical indoor meetings-especially beneficial given your preference for “volume not turned all the way up”. gentle settings: you can choose to walk a shorter route or join only part of the time. The group seems open to different paces.
You’ll get both the benefit of gentle physical activity (which is often good for mental health) and a friendly social group of men you can talk with, maybe in a way that feels comfortable.
Located locally (in Caerphilly borough) so likely accessible in terms of travel.
⚠️ Points to check / ask
Check the pace and route of the walk: some walks may be longer or more challenging than others (1-3 hours mentioned). If you prefer a shorter/light one, ask ahead.
Confirm meeting point and ease of access (parking, transport) especially if you prefer fewer stairs or gentler terrain.
Ask about duration and whether you can join only for part of the walk (e.g., the start or the coffee after) if you don’t want the full route.
Mention your mobility or comfort level so the organisers are aware and can suggest a suitable walk.
Confirm current start time & venue (sometimes groups change for weather/season).
If you prefer quieter discussion, ask if there’s a quieter portion (e.g., small group chat) or whether the group tends to be large and talkative.
📞 Next step / contact
Email: mentalkwalk@gmail.com for more information.
You could show up at the next Sunday morning meeting, say hello, explain your interest and your comfort level—most such groups are very welcoming.

YOU'RE NEVER ALONE
YOU’RE NEVER ALONE is a men’s mental health & wellbeing support group, operating in Blaenau Gwent, South Wales. youre-never-alone.co.uk
Their activities include:
Wellbeing walks (e.g., Sundays)
Bike rides / cycle sessions
Cold-water dips (Saturday mornings)
A Tuesday evening meet-up for chat & coffee at a venue in Brynmawr (which is near Tredegar)
Example event: A free “Mental Health Walk” in Tredegar at Parc Bryn Bach, Merthyr Road, Tredegar — meet 6pm outside the visitor centre. Parc Bryn Bach
Why this might be a good fit for you if your in the region (near Caerphilly/Tredegar) this group is local and accessible.
The walking/activity-based format could be a comfortable alternative to a loud indoor meeting.
It’s men-focused, which may align with your preference for setting and peer support.
The variety of options (walks, chat, coffee) means you can choose the involvement level that suits you.
A few considerations / tips
Because you’re 85 years old, it would be wise to check with the organisers about the suitability of the walks or other activities (distance, pace, accessibility).
Ask about meeting times, volume/noise level (you mentioned you prefer your volume not turned all the way up) — a walk might be more relaxed, but the “chat & coffee” might still have groups of men talking concurrently, so you might want a quieter slot.
Confirm the meeting venue and transport / parking details in Tredegar (or somewhere accessible to you) before attending.
Consider bringing a friend or family member along initially for support if that feels more comfortable.
Contact / Next Step
You could reach out via their website (as listed) or social media. For example, their website states you can join “whenever and however often you want.” youre-never-alone.co.uk
